Fjords of Norway
Fourteen day cruise aboard the SEABOURN SUN starting on July 09, 2001 from Dover in UK.
Cruise the North Sea, Bergen, Flaam, Gudvagen, Olden, Trondheim, Honningsvag, Hellesylt, Geiranger and Alesund in Norway, returning in Dover.
Dover is at one end of the North Downs and has several ranges of hills, two of which have fortresses dating from the medieval and Roman eras, as well as more modern (19th Century) times. Behind the town centre are the modern-day barracks, Dover's past and current commitments to the country have always included more than can be seen under the famous White Cliffs.
Fascinating excursions reveal Bergen's 1,000-year history. See Rosenkrantz Tower before venturing to Troldhaugen and Fantoft Church. Or explore in depth at the Bergen Aquarium, Haakon's Hall and St. Mary's Church.
After a dramatic cruise up the pristine Sognefjord, the tiny village of Flaam will appear against the backdrop of sheer cliffs. From the gingerbread railway station, take a zigzagging train ride upwards-through cascading waterfalls and a maze of tunnelsto Myrdal, nearly 3000 feet above the fjords.
Tucked between 5,000-foot peaks, in a fjord only a quarter of mile wide, Gudvangen glitters cheerfully in the summer sun, happy for a respite from winter's shadows.
Adventure waits when you opt for a glacier flight seeing trip from the charming mountain village of Olden. Gaze down, from your van point in the air, at the picture-postcard scenery of two dozen crystalline fjords.
Long ago, Trondheim was a base for Viking raiders. The Folk Museum brings the region's rich traditions to life. Visit the impressive gothic Nidaros Cathedral and Ringve Manor, a museum of musical history containing over 2,000 unique instruments.
Hellesylt is a beautiful resort, overlooking the Norwegian fjords. It is the starting point for excursions through a land where waterfalls spread their lacework across the cliffs, and orchards are strung together in a garland of blossom.
Cruise through the "Queen of Fjords," past dashing waterfalls and tiny farms hung like swallows' nests on the steep granite cliffs. From the village of Geiranger, you can ascend Mt. Dalsnibba for a bird's-eye view of your ship in the fjord 5,000 feet below.
Set on three islands between two bright blue fjords, Alesund offers unforgettable vistas with its art nouveau architecture and stunning seascapes in Atlantic Park. A city tour encompasses the city and the unique aquarium, boasting expansive windows on the sea.
This cruise is performed by SEABOURN CRUISES on board SEABOURN SUN running on the following dates during year 2001.
