Saas-Fee lies in an idyllic valley surrounded by the highest mountains in the
Swiss Alps. No less than 13 four-thousand-metre peaks encircle the village at the foot of the glaciers like a shell and give it its distinctive name
"the Pearl of the Alps".
Saas Fee's location close to the
Dom and the
Allalin provides winter sport opportunities throughout the entire year. It can be reached by car or bus, buses run during the day every 15 minutes from Brig and Visp. No cars are allowed to enter the village (they have to be parked in special car parks outside); only small electric vehicles operate on the streets.
In winter the high-altitude valley benefits from its elevation and enjoys guaranteed snow. Apart from being able to ski up to an altitude of 3600 metres above sea-level, visitors also benefit from a wide variety of shops and entertainment.
The world's highest revolving restaurant "Drehrestaurant Allalin" at 3,500 metres can also be found in
Saas Fee.
Next door to
the world's highest revolving restaurant you will find the
world's biggest ice pavilion on the
Mittelallalin at an altitude of 3500 metres. The glaciers which are thousands of years old reveal their secrets in a huge ice grotto covering an area of over 5000 m3, a surprising, adventurous glacier world for children and adults alike.
The campus of the
European Graduate School, a university of the canton
Valais, is also located in
Saas-Fee.
