A mountain city in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Teresópolis was founded during the first half of the 19th Century. It got its name from Emperor D. Pedro II, who was paying homage to his consort, the Empress Teresa Cristina. Despite this, the main local treasures are not related to the historical past, but to nature and gastronomy.
The region around Teresópolis is a true whim of nature. There, the Órgãos Mountains, covered in Atlantic Forest, attract visitors from Brazil and overseas, enchanted by the exuberant flora and fauna. Teresópolis is 910 meters (2985 ft) high, the highest city in the State. The pleasant climate invites the tourist to enjoy the cold in the winter and cool off with pleasant dive in the summer.
