Located at 192,63 mi (310 km) West from Fortaleza, the capital city of the state of Ceara, Jericoacoara has some of the most beautiful beaches of the country and is filled with dunes and rocky steep walls, coconut trees, and a sea of incredibly blue waters. The natural beauties are such that they led to the creation of the Ubajara and Jericoacoara National Park, which cover a vast area around the town. With unpaved streets, the town preserves the charm and rusticity of a fishermen's village. In the past, many of its charming lodges were used as residence by the inhabitants of the area. To get there, it is a good idea using special vehicles that can cover the miles of dunes separating the place from the nearest highway; or perhaps take one of the many bus lines that daily go there from Fortaleza. Discovered in the seventies by the hippies, Jeri, as it is often called, has in tourism its main source of income. Brazilian and foreign tourists that visit it can enjoy its astoundingly beautiful beaches, take buggy rides on its vast coastline, and sail in the ponds of crystal clear waters. At the end of the afternoon, tourists can watch the sun go down from an enormous dune. And, at night, after the night lights are on, the must is trying some of the delicious fish and seafood recipes in the local restaurants. And if there is still any energy left, the tourist can party all night long, enjoying the music of an authentic popular dance, the so-called forr, as well as all the excitement of the local bars. Those who visit the Jeri beach must also see the town of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, distant only 12,43 mi (20 Km) from there, filled with natural beauties and constant winds that are especially appreciated by those who practice water sports, such as kitesurf and windsurf. The weather of the area is typically hot and humid, with a rainy season from the summer until the autumn, and average temperatures oscillating between 70F (22C) and 95F (35C). The dry season lasts from five to six months. The annual rainfall average is 53,7 in (1364 mm).
