This area is known for its natural beauty. The high mountains, the Pindos mountain range, offer an array of winter sports while there are also aquatic areas that attract visitors' interest including Lake Orestiada as well as many rivers and streams.
Furthermore, there are some picturesque villages and a splendid town, Kastoria, which has some seventy Byzantine churches, almost making it a living rural museum.
For those whose favourite season is the autumn and are inclined to be romantic then this quiet, tranquil area is the perfect place to take a holiday. The golden red colours of the deciduous trees as they shed their leaves, the snow capped mountains and the uniquely designed fishing boats in the harbour are truly a sight to behold.
What's more the mansions and urban architecture that was developed in the 18th and 19th century as a result of the financial boom witnessed in the town due to its trade in furs, are a wonderful backdrop for any holiday. This area is indeed different from the rest of Greece and as such is definitely worth visiting.
