This county is in someway connected to every phase in Greek history. The capital Veria is a prehistoric town that was very prominent in times gone by. At the foot of the Pieria mountains, where Vergina is located today, one can come across the archaeological findings of Aigon, the tombs of the royals of Vergina as well as other archaeological monuments which have worldwide acclaim.
Naousa is the second largest city in this county and has been decreed a Heroic City because of the holocaust suffered by its residents in 1822.
Apart from the historical interest of the area, visitors are also impressed by the mountainous areas of the county, for example unique ecosystems can be found in the forests which grow on the eastern slopes of Mount Vermio. Moreover, visitors can enjoy interesting traditional villages such as Arkohori, near Naousa. Tourism and pilgrimage centres such as Kostania and Panagia Soumela also attract visitors as do the mountain village Seli and the Grammeni campsite in Vermio, all with lush vegetation and ample greenery.
There are ski resorts in Seli and Pigadia Naousa which are equipped to deal with the numerous visitors that arrive every winter.
Imathia is a place which is worth visiting as this is the heart of Macedonia.
