The ancient municipality of Exoni, took its current name Glyfada at the beginning of the 20th century because of the salty water present in the areas water wells.
The population today is about 100 000 residents.

Glyfada is 18 km away from central Athens via Vouliagmenis avenue, and 20 km from Piraeus port via the coastal Poseidonos Avenue. The new Athens Airport Eleftherios Venizelos is approximately 28 km via Vari.
The only Golf course in Athens the Glyfada Golf is on the West side of the town.
