Elafonisi is a picturesque small island off the south west tip of the island of Crete surrounded by crystal clear waters and sandy beaches.

The islet of Elafonissi, only 300 meters from the mainland, is separated by a shallow channel of water, sometimes as deep as only half meter. The depth of the channel changes as sea currents bring in or take away the sand.
On a normal summer day, when the current is not strong, you can walk across the channel to the island to find your own small white sandy beach often separated by volcanic rock.
